Role Description
Givebutter is hiring a Senior Engineer to join our Engage pod, focusing on backend engineering for our Engage tools, including Email, Texting, and Direct Mail. As a Senior Engineer, you’ll work directly with our backend team to build, optimize, and scale features that ensure nonprofits can effectively engage with their supporters through reliable, secure, and user-friendly communication tools. You’ll be responsible for creating backend systems that support email campaigns, SMS functionality, direct mail integrations, and associated analytics. This role is ideal for someone with deep expertise in communication platforms, scalable system design, and integration development.

Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize backend systems for email campaigns, SMS delivery, and direct mail integrations.
Ensure our communication tools are reliable, scalable, and compliant with industry standards, such as CAN-SPAM and GDPR.
Develop and maintain integrations with external tools like Twilio, Sinch, Lob, Postmark, etc. to enhance our Engage features.
Implement analytics and reporting capabilities to provide users with actionable insights into their campaign performance.
Review and optimize code, ensuring it is secure, efficient, and maintainable within a distributed architecture.
Stay current on communication platform trends and compliance requirements, applying these to keep our systems up-to-date and user-friendly.
Requirements
5+ years of experience as a backend engineer working with PHP and Laravel.
Strong understanding of secure system design, API integrations, and compliance requirements for email and SMS platforms (e.g., CAN-SPAM, GDPR, TCPA).
Experience with third-party integrations, such as SMS providers (e.g., Twilio), email services (e.g., Postmark), and direct mail APIs.
Familiarity with analytics and reporting frameworks for tracking communication tool performance.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
