We are now inviting applications for our September 2026 cohort of Graduate Fire Engineers. Positions are available in all of our UK offices: London, Manchester, Banbury, Bath, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Leeds.

OFR Consultants is an independent, employee-owned fire engineering practice. We are committed to technical excellence in both our project work and our ongoing research. Our people are at the centre of our business, and we are trusted by clients to deliver practical and innovative fire safety solutions on projects of all scales.

We take pride in our workplace culture, celebrating the successes of our people and our commitment to furthering knowledge and understanding in our industry. Check out the Insights section of our website, and our LinkedIn and Instagram pages for more on this: Insights - OFR

As a graduate at OFR, you will work alongside experienced engineers, gain hands-on project experience from your first day, and develop the skills needed to become a trusted and valued fire engineer.

Our people are our business and we are incredibly proud to be rated as World Class To Work For. This recognition from Best Companies is based solely on the feedback of our own staff

Our Graduate Development Programme

Our graduate programme combines structured training with project-based learning to give you a strong foundation in both the technical and professional skills you need to succeed as a fire engineer.

Through the OFR Technical Institute, you will develop your core fire science knowledge, covering everything from the basics of fire science terminology to complex topics such as flame spread, people movement and toxicity.

Alongside this, the OFR Graduate Springboard Programme will help you build the professional skills needed in consultancy, including in presentation, negotiation, time management, and confidence.

We believe that in-person learning and peer connections are an important part of development. For this reason, many of our structured development sessions are in person, with colleagues from across all of our offices, to allow you to build relationships and share experiences.

Much of your learning will come through project delivery, supported by colleagues across the whole of our business. Exposure to a variety of project types and teams will give you the chance to learn different approaches to successful project delivery, helping you grow both technically and professionally.

About you:

You will be working towards, or have recently completed, your degree in a relevant discipline. We welcome graduates from a range of STEM backgrounds. Alongside those with fire engineering degrees, our team includes colleagues who studied civil, mechanical, and aeronautical engineering, as well as surveying and mathematics.

If you are curious, motivated, and keen to apply your skills to fire safety, there could be a place for you at OFR.

In addition, you will also be able to demonstrate skills in the following, or a motivation to develop these with our support:

  • Communication – the ability to express ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing as appropriate to each task. Graduates will be supported to develop these skills further, but a good foundation is important.
  • Problem-solving– fire engineering is constantly evolving, and we value people who are curious, open to feedback and keen to work collaboratively to develop new and innovative solutions.
  • Commitment to self-development – we encourage all our staff to continue learning and to work towards professional registration. Graduates should show enthusiasm for building their knowledge and skills over time.
  • Client focus – our projects range from large high-rise developments to smaller community initiatives, and each client has unique motivations and needs. Building and maintaining strong client relationships is central to our success.
  • Teamwork – we work together in teams of all shapes and sizes, where every person’s contribution is valued. Graduates should engage in meaningful discussions, respect different perspectives and contribute to achieving shared goals.

What's in it for you?

We will provide you with the great opportunity to develop your skills as a fire engineer. As a graduate, you will work alongside experienced engineers from all parts of our business, supporting project delivery while developing your own technical skills. You will quickly become part of the team and gain hands-on experience across a wide range of projects.

At OFR, you can also expect an exceptional benefits package including various options which support your unique lifestyle.

We are more than a consultancy. Our work is underpinned by research that advances the understanding of the interactions between fire, people, and structures. It shapes technical policy and directly impacts the latest editions of codes, standards and guidance documents.

Graduates have the chance to be involved in this research and in collaborations with universities, industry partners, and government bodies. This could be modelling fire development in carparks to inform policy makers on their appropriate fire resistance, through to the large-scale fire testing of timber enclosures to enable safe sustainable constructionOur research ensures our project work is informed by the latest knowledge and contributes to shaping the wider fire safety profession.

Finally, we are proud of our culture. OFR is employee-owned, and we value the contribution of every individual. We enjoy working together, learning from each other, and building relationships not just at work but also through social activities that bring people together.

One of the highlights of the OFR calendar is our annual three-day company retreat. It brings the whole team together for a mix of professional development and downtime. Over the course of the event, we take part in presentations, workshops, and discussions led by both internal experts and external speakers. There’s also plenty of time to relax, join in with sports and social activities, and simply catch up with colleagues and friends from across the business.

At OFR we believe that diversity is critical to ensuring we are a strong, stable and positively evolving business. Our graduates will join a supportive environment where those with different background, perspectives and experiences are equally valued. We welcome applications from all candidates, including those from underrepresented groups in engineering such as women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ communities, people with disabilities and those from socially or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

If you require any adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know, we are happy to support you.
