DSHS FTAA IT Architecture Senior/Specialist
We are seeking a dynamic IT Architect with a focus on enhancing business intelligence capabilities to join our Business Intelligence Unit (BIU) within the Research and Data Analysis Division (RDA) at the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
Our BIU mission is to empower partners across the agency by transforming raw data into actionable insights, enabling effective data exploration and analysis to drive problem-solving, risk management, continuous improvement, and strategic decision-making.
In this role, you will support the BIU, which oversees the management, operation, and governance of Power BI infrastructure and enterprise reporting architecture. Reporting to the BIU Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing an IT roadmap to advance BI infrastructure, architecting and implementing innovative data analytics solutions, optimizing data interoperability, and coordinating data management needs across the BIU team.
This is a technical role with reporting responsibilities. You will work closely with all aspects of business intelligence—from business requirements to data visualization and everything in between. The position requires a strategic mindset and the ability to partner across many different teams, while also being self-motivated, forward-thinking, and solution-oriented.

This role operates in a highly collaborative, cross-functional team environment where agile practices, sprint planning, and DevOps-based workflows are core to daily operations. Team members work closely across technical and business domains, contributing to the full business intelligence lifecycle—from requirements gathering to solution delivery. The position follows a hybrid work model, with 1–2 days per week in-person at the office to foster collaboration and innovation, and remote work options available on remaining days.

Who should apply
A Bachelor’s degree including 9 semester or 15 quarter hours of computer science courses
AND
Seven years of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in IT analysis, system maintenance, or troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing or programming computer systems applications or databases;
OR
Eleven years of professional experience of consultative, administrative, or supervisory experience in IT analysis, system maintenance, or troubleshooting/problem resolution experience, or analyzing, designing, etc.
The following required experience may have been obtained concurrently:
• Ten years of progressively responsible experience in a lead or management role is required due to the enterprise nature of assignments. This experience could be through performance of direct supervisory function for staff, direct management of contracted resources or matrix management of staff resources for a project or similar endeavor
• Ten years of experience managing, designing, or directing multiple large scale enterprise IT architecture designs in the Information Technology areas
• Five years or more of experience of creating and maintaining enterprise-level conceptual and logical data models
• Five years of experience managing and supporting business process improvement and business intelligence initiatives
• Three years of experience building Power BI Data Models and Reports
• Three years of experience using iServer or similar Architecture Tool for Data Architecture Modeling
Certification of enterprise architecture frameworks, such as FEAF, TOGAF, etc.
Familiarity with the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge (BIZBOK) or similar discipline guides and certification from the Business Architecture Guild or similar professional organizations.
