The U.S. Ski & Snowboard Foundation is the nonprofit fundraising arm for U.S. Ski & Snowboard. Our goal is to raise funds to support the coaching, training, travel, competition and education needs of our elite level athletes.

SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE 

The Director of Development will manage relationships with prospective and current major gift donors and coordinate solicitations for support of the team’s most pressing needs. This position is primarily responsible for assisting with Major Gift projects including Annual Giving, Gold Pass, Alumni, Direct Mail and general gift processing.

  • Athlete Experience
    1. Support U.S. Ski & Snowboard team athlete’s critical funding needs for travel, elite training, coaching, sports science and nutrition by securing financial support from major donors
    2. Collaborate with current team members and alumni athletes who participate in fundraising hospitality events.
    3. Represent our athletes, sports and community in an authentic and impressive manner
  • Operational Excellence
    1. Build new donor relationships while maintaining ongoing ones
    2. Manage a donor portfolio of approximately 75+ donors and prospects
    3. Identify, research and steward prospective donors
    4. Establishes fundraising objectives for the organization, setting one year, five year, and longer-term goals
    5. Grow relationships with major gift donors
    6. Track all donor interactions and pledges in our donor management system (Salesforce - NPSP)
    7. Develop prospect/donor solicitation and stewardship strategies
    8. Create major gift proposals
    9. Plans fundraising events that effectively communicate the purposes of the organization
    10. Project lead on annual signature Gold Medal Gala fundraiser - gross revenue $2M plus.
  • Financial Performance
    1. Expand current philanthropic support and achieve fundraising goals
    2. Plan and coordinate prospect/major donor asks
    3. Assist in planning and budgeting of short and long-term major gift goals 
    4. Manage travel and program budgets

COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience and education:
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Minimum five years of fundraising or non-profit experience 
    • Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and securing major gifts
    • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles
    • Cultivating major donors or business clients (5+ years)
    • Fundraising or sales (5+ years)
    • Demonstrated success in raising funds 
    • Effectively able to motivate volunteers and donors to assist in achieving organizational goals
  • Passionate about skiing and snowboarding. Must be able to speak with trustees and donors about the sport with knowledge and passion
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written 
  • Exceptional ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Adaptable to evolving priorities.
  • Strong ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, delegate, manage own work, make good decisions, and solve problems effectively and creatively
  • Driven, innovative, proactive, goal oriented, enthusiastic.
  • This role will also require national and international travel.
