Job Summary



A Brief Overview
A detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills, this position plays a pivotal role in driving institutional success through strategic research and prospect services. The Research & Prospect Data Analyst works in a fast-paced environment, identifying and qualifying new philanthropic prospects, preparing profiles and capacity assessments, as well as other strategic documents to inform the development of relationship building, cultivation and solicitation strategies for fundraisers, Advancement colleagues and high-level constituents in their prospect, donor and volunteer engagement activities.

This position also has responsibility for the daily management, maintenance, integrity and oversight for data, documents, systems and processes necessary to maintain effective and efficient operation of the Leadership, Major and Principal giving prospect framework on the CRM.

This position builds relationships with key internal constituents, in particular, fundraisers to provide guidance and collaboration as prospects move through the prospect cycle. Collaborating closely with development teams, this position will provide valuable insights and recommendations leveraging research and analytical findings to optimize fundraising outcomes. Expertise in prospect research methodologies and fundraising analytics will be instrumental in guiding decision-making and optimizing fundraising outcomes.


This position performs research to identify prospects for Advancement programs, provides analysis of gift capabilities, and identifies the interests and propensity of prospective major gift donors. This position prepares reports to support fundraising activities with major gift donors such as individuals, foundations and corporation. This position also develops relationships with frontline fundraisers and other external groups to support prospect identification, qualification, and strategy.




Job Description


What you will do

  • Identifies prospective donors and volunteers by incorporating the use of database segmentation analysis, external resources, electronic screenings, and peer review and/or focus group results.

  • Provides analysis of gift capabilities, and identifies the interests and propensity of prospective major gift donors.

  • Prepares ad hoc reports for high-touch fundraising calls.

  • Conducts detailed research and prepares reports to support fundraising with major gift donors such as individuals, foundations and corporation.

  • Assesses the reliability and accuracy of sources of information, and analyzes and interprets information to determine its relevance for reports and presentations.

  • Develops relationships with frontline fundraisers and other external groups to support prospect identification, qualification, and strategy.

  • Acts as a research lead in regional and individual/faculty strategy development meetings.
  • Provides reference materials to support the use of database and other resources.

  • Develops, administers, and maintains databases, electronic documents, and records management applications.

  • Develops and modifies database documentation.

  • Provides user training on database features and functionality to ensure data integrity.

  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education
  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.
    Required Experience
    • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
      • Experience in data, trend analysis and reporting considered an asset.

      • Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, policy manuals, newsletters, handbooks, legal documents, forms/templates, blogs, training/reference materials, technical documents, webinars, etc.).

      • Experience in database administration/management, design and/or technologies considered an asset (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or Oracle/DB2, relational databases, warehoused databases, etc.).

      • Experience in program analysis and reporting considered an asset.

      • Experience in risk management practices considered an asset (e.g., conducting risk assessments, Financial Risk, Insurance Risk, Credit Risk, Operational Risk, Project Risk, Market Risk, Technology Risk including information Security and/or Cybersecurity, etc.).

      • Experience monitoring, evaluating and testing records, processes and/or systems to assess compliance with applicable laws, agreements, contracts, and/or policies considered an asset (e.g., IT systems audits, financial audits, operational audits, etc.).

      • Experience with software and web technologies considered an asset (e.g., ServiceNow, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), other software packaging, etc.).

      • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.

      • Experience working in a comparable client-focused environment considered an asset

      • Experience working with diverse populations/equity deserving groups considered an asset.

      • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, standards and/or guidelines considered an asset.

      • Knowledge of relationship building, fundraising and stewardship considered an asset.

      • Experience working in a non-profit office considered an asset.
    Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Job Knowledge and Requirements
