Work Environment: NGL offers a flexible work environment where employees can work fully remote, hybrid or onsite at our Madison, Wis. office. We support virtual working arrangements in certain states outside of WI.


A Day in the Life:

The Business Systems Analyst is accountable for providing Business, System, and Data Analysis, Quality Assurance and Production Support ensuring quality solutions are delivered that meet business needs. This role operates under minimal supervision in a team environment. Primary responsibilities include acting as a liaison between the business and IT supporting both systems and processes delivering quality solutions. Tasks assigned to this level require a general understanding of the company-wide system processes and solution requirements as well as data structures of the system being utilized. Work includes independently analyzing the business process, documenting requirements, and recommending solutions. This role also includes advocating for quality solutions by creating and executing test plans. Business Systems Analysts must be able to work in a changing, fluid environment that is dedicated to continuous improvement.

  

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Quality Assurance
    • Perform and support a full cycle of testing functions including exploratory, integration, system, regression, performance and user-acceptance testing.
    • Develop, execute and maintain test plans, test scenarios, test cases and test scripts.
    • Write queries as needed for testing/analysis of data.
    • Document and evaluate test results and defects; ensure that quality issues and defects are appropriately identified, prioritized, documented, tracked, and resolved.
    • Works with the team and business units to identify and develop acceptance criteria; applies understanding of acceptance criteria to test and evaluate new or modified software features and functionality with an emphasis on delivering high quality software.
    • Assist in building and maintaining a stable and reliable automated testing infrastructure.
    • Identify testing challenges that arise and collaborate with others to resolve.
    • Follow best practices for quality assurance; implement, adopt and document applicable testing practices and expectations.
    • Accountable for identifying features and functions that are impactful to the business so that Risk Base Testing is properly executed.
    • Recreate business processes and functionality in test environments to ensure business needs have been met.
    • Facilitate UAT with stakeholders.
  • Business Systems Analysis
    • Collaborate with stakeholders and IT team members to develop end-to-end technical solutions across teams that improve operational capabilities and customer experience.
    • Identify and foresee both business process and system issues, perform analysis and recommend solutions so respective business functions can successfully run the business and are using properly functioning technology.
    • Lead without authority, facilitate business need sessions, document and translate business needs into usable functional/nonfunctional requirements.
    • Communicate to the business areas using simple, non-technical language but can consult with IT in a more technical manner.
    • Act in a liaison role between the business and IT.
  • Data Analysis
    • Understand the meaning of business data in order to specify how the data enables work activity in respective and cross functional business functions.
    • Query, extract and analyze business data to identify patterns and solutions to root causes of problems.
  • Production Support
    • Provide process and system support as necessary to ensure the business is functioning effectively.
    • Support and complete system configuration work
    • Coordinate with the team and business stakeholders to ensure operational stability in their software product and follow up on any reported issues.
    • Analyze, research and document reported problems and resolution.
    • Provide system support including maintenance, upgrades and releases.
  • Other
    • Participate in Daily Stand-up, Release Planning, Review and Retrospective meetings.
    • Be a positive influence to other members of the team and with other departments of the organization.
    • Represent and communicate the mission and values of NGL and comply with conduct policy, security policy and confidentiality expectations.
    • Effectively facilitate meetings with stakeholders, team members or vendors.

  • Knowledgeable in policy administrative systems and development processes with an emphasis on agile methodology
  • Ability to extract meaning from data
  • Insurance industry knowledge preferred with a strong understanding of multiple functional areas
  • Experience working with third-party vendors

    Education Requirements:

    • Preferred:  Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience.

    Years of Experience:

    • Minimum:  One year of experience writing SQL queries and a minimum of three years of experience in business system analysis, system testing, or related field required.  Experience working in an Agile team environment required.
    • Preferred:  Insurance industry knowledge preferred with a strong understanding of multiple functional areas.  Experience using ID3, OIPA, OnBase, Eloquence or Salesforce preferred.  Experience working with third-party vendors is a plus.
